What can I do to prevent the Spreadsheet losing data when switching between multiple monitors?

I have a 13.3-inch-screen attached to my MBP and a 27-inch external monitor. I have a few documents open on my MBP and I switch back and forth between the two while programming.
However, I find that if I do this while in the middle of working on a cell, when I switch to the monitor my spreadsheet loses the data in the cells I was working on.
I haven’t found a way to prevent this. Is there some way of doing this in Google Chrome?

Right-click a tab, and go to View > Options
Uncheck “Show full shortcut keys”
