I can’t remember when I was first exposed to the idea of thinking for myself. I honestly can’t remember if I was ever in a situation in which someone had to make a choice for me.
If I had to guess it was in elementary school. Specifically after the first grade when I was 11 or so.

There was a party-girl wearing a war paint who was called a “warrior.” Another girl was wearing her hair in a bun, and her name was “female warrior.” My third-grade self concluded that the girls wearing the war paint were the warrior tribe, and the girl with the bun was the female warrior tribe.
